Why Paying Privately for Mental Health Therapy May be Beneficial
At GroundWork Counseling in Orlando we offer specialized private-pay therapy. Paying privately for mental health therapy can offer unique advantages to those seeking help. One of the primary benefits is privacy. When you pay out-of-pocket, you do not have to worry about your therapy sessions being seen by insurance companies, employers, or other third parties. This offers a greater level of security and discretion than therapy that is covered by an insurance plan. Additionally, private pay therapy often allows for more flexible scheduling, so individuals can schedule appointments at times that work best for them without having to worry about coordinating with a complicated insurance network.
Another advantage is access to specialized care. Private therapy typically comes with a wider range of options when it comes to treatment types and methods, allowing individuals to find the therapy option that best suits their needs. It also allows therapy to be tailored more specifically to an individual’s situation, as therapists do not have to adhere to pre-set limits or rules established by insurance companies.
Private therapy often comes with a greater sense of control for the patient due to the fact that they are paying for it directly out-of-pocket. This can make therapy more accessible and less intimidating for those who may feel overwhelmed by the bureaucracy and formality associated with insurance reimbursement.
While therapy that is covered by insurance can be beneficial, there are potential drawbacks. Insurance companies may require mental health diagnoses in order to approve treatment reimbursement, which could have a negative effect on the patient’s life. Diagnoses from therapy sessions can stay on an individual’s record for years and even permanently limit their access to certain job positions or other opportunities.
Private therapy provides many benefits that are not offered with therapy that is covered by insurance. With its greater level of privacy, more flexible scheduling and access to specialized care, private pay mental health therapy can be a valuable option for those seeking help.
GroundWork Counseling is considered an out of network provider, which means that we do not bill insurance companies directly. Your counseling services may be eligible for reimbursement through out-of-network benefits, medical spending, or health care savings accounts. Health insurance plans and benefits vary. If you are interested in using your health insurance to see one of our counselors, please call your insurance provider to inquire about reimbursement for out-of-network counseling services.
GroundWork Counseling will provide you with a receipt at the end of each session, which you can then submit to your insurance company for possible out-of-network coverage/reimbursement.
By paying privately or out of pocket, your records are exempt from insurance reporting. We are able to assure private pay clients the highest degree of privacy, flexibility, and control of their mental health record allowed by Florida state law. At GroundWork, we work collaboratively with our clients to decide how often you should attend therapy, and you decide what you want to focus on. By providing specialized CBT therapy, our clients are often in therapy for a shorter duration than clients participating in different therapy models. By taking your insurance company out of the equation this allows you have the control, not the insurance company. Many insurance companies require a deductible to be met before they start paying for mental health coverage, so you may be paying out of pocket anyway.
