Katie Dunbar, MA, NCC | Child & Adult Therapist
MA, National Board Certified Counselor, Registered Mental Health Counseling Intern IMH25024
At Groundwork, I provide evidence-based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) for children, adolescents, and adults with anxiety disorders, OCD, mood disorders, behavioral challenges, and body focused repetitive behaviors (BFRBs). When working with children and adolescents, parents are invited and encouraged to join the therapeutic process, where I will provide psychoeducation and coaching of ways to best support their child for continued progress.
I strive to create a safe and supportive environment where clients can begin to heal and make meaningful changes within their lives. I am passionate about helping others to feel empowered and to find their voice. We will begin our journey through exploration of the influences of one’s thoughts, feelings, and behaviors on overall wellbeing. Using evidence-based interventions, we will begin to repair unhelpful cognitions and behaviors to create happier and healthier lives.
We will collaborate on targeted goals for therapy to create individualized treatment plans that promote growth and wellbeing.
Education and Background: I obtained my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in Gerontology from Central Connecticut State University in New Britain, CT prior to completion of a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Southern New Hampshire University in Manchester, NH. I am a Registered Mental Health Clinical Intern in the state of FL (IMH 25024). I am also a Nationally Board-Certified Counselor from the NBCC. I currently practice under the direct supervision of Marion Rodrigue and Courtney Hubscher at GroundWork Counseling. I have spent the past five years working at Rogers Behavioral Health, a nationally recognized mental health organization, at both the partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient levels of care, where I received extensive training from well respected clinicians. While at Rogers, I provided evidence-based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) to a variety of populations, including, OCD and anxiety disorders, mood disorders, substance use disorders, and eating disorders with children, adolescents, and adults.
I have also completed certification in HRT / COMB model for Body Focused Repetitive Behaviors (BFRBs) such as hair pulling and skin picking disorders, and offer these services to children, teens, and adults. In addition, I have training in CBIT for tics / tourettes.
About Me: I was raised in a small New England town in CT where I spent 29 years. I chose to trade snow days for beach days in 2018 when I made the move to Florida. Taking a leap of faith to another state led me to my husband and I became a stepmother of two beautiful children. In my free time, you can find me in the yoga studio, tending to my plants, cozied up with my cat, exploring the beach, and spending time with family and friends. I feel strongly about destigmatizing mental health and am involved with The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
